What is The Shine®?

The Shine® is a volunteer-produced inspirational variety show that happens pop-up style in Los Angeles, New York and London about once every 2-3 months. The event features music from local bands, inspiring short films, group meditation, audience-based philanthropy, delicious food, fun questions, and storytelling.

Our simple mission is to create a local, alcohol-free social experience that will leave you feeling nourished and inspired to do more, give more, and be more. We believe inspiration is the key to bettering our world. Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best: "Our chief desire is for someone to inspire us to be what we know we can be."

Past talks, performances & meditations

Meditation master Mallika Chopra shares the story of writing her book, Intent, and her strange and beautiful meeting with Eckhart Tolle. Then she leads The Shine audience at Cross Campus in Santa Monica through a fun meditation sequence.

DC Central Kitchen & LA Kitchen founder, Robert Egger, returns to The Shine to give a spirited talk about seeing past imperfections and the power of being a "delightful sinner." He also riffs on Prince, Lou Reed, and his experience meeting Oprah.

At each Shine, we randomly select a participant from the audience to spend a portion of the proceeds from the previous Shine. The December 2017 Shine on Challenge was undertaken by Karen Mahrous who raised money to provide feminine products to homeless women. Watch the video to see how it went.

Southern California Singer-songwriter Monique Benabou sang a live version of "The Highest" at the November 2016 Shine at Cross Campus in Santa Monica. https://soundcloud.com/moniquebenabou. Based out of New York City, The Beatbox House is a collective of World Champion Beatboxers. Hailing from different regions of the country, The Beatbox House is compromised of five core members Gene Shinozaki, Kenny Urban, NaPoM, Amit and Chris Celiz. They currently live in Brooklyn, New York (yes it's a real house.)
